We made it!

As we close out the school year, we reflect not only on the accomplishments in our classrooms and programs, but also on the broader context in which we did this work.
This year, our students continued to grow, academically, socially, and emotionally, because of the care, commitment, and expertise of educators, families, and agency staff. Every lesson taught, milestone reached, and barrier overcome represents the heart of our collective mission.
At the same time, we worked within a shifting political and policy landscape that continues to shape how education is funded, delivered, and valued. From state budget and regional contract negotiations to advocacy for special education rights and equitable resources in California and D.C., this was a year that called on all of us to raise our voices; not just for our own students, but for the integrity of public education and the communities we serve.
We advocated for inclusion, for access, and for the recognition that every student deserves the opportunity to learn in environments that support their full potential. These efforts, whether through public testimony, coalition building, or day-to-day conversations with decision-makers, are part of the long arc of systems change.
As we enter a period of rest and reflection, we do so grounded in the knowledge that our work continues. The progress we’ve made is worth celebrating, and the challenges ahead are real. But so is our collective strength, leadership, and resolve.
With that spirit, we look to the year ahead with renewed purpose and fresh leadership. We’re proud to welcome our new CAPSES Board Officers, and especially to announce Hillary Whiteside, Executive Director of the Institute for Effective Education, as our new Board Chair.
Thank you for your partnership, your advocacy, and your unwavering belief in the power of education.
